Acting, a timeless art form of storytelling has ignited many lives with its passion. We've all been witnessing the power of acting whenever we have enjoyed a movie, been hooked on a TV show or been moved by a play. Movies, shows and plays have always given us a sense of joy, worth, love and occasional goosebumps.

Start with some beginners acting classes until you’re ready to move on to a more advanced class. ?

2. Broaden Your Knowledge

Taking professional acting classes is, of course, one of the most important things any aspiring actor can do. However, broadening your knowledge on all things related to acting can be of great help. Watch more films, watch actors performing live at the theatre, read more plays, discover playwrights that you might like and study books on acting.

3. The More You Watch, The More You Learn

To become a better actor you must not only continue learning the craft of acting which is a lifelong process, but observe the actors you admire regularly. Observe how they execute their craft. What can you learn from them? What are they doing that makes them an outstanding actor?

4. Know What Your Character Wants

If you want to play a role successfully, you need to get to know your character. Clues to that can be found in the text, but also rely on the actor’s imagination. Try to understand and produce the style required by the scene you are in. Through analyzing, improvising and living the part of your character, you will be able to create a believable character on screen.

5. Be Versatile

Don’t just be the guy or girl who can play the young love interest. Get your hands dirty and try something out of what you or others perceive as your ‘type’. You might find you like being the straight man, the villain or the comic relief. 

6. Get Some Acting Experience

Because you are just starting out, sign up for casting agencies for extra work and go to as many open auditions as possible. Another great thing to do is join an amateur theatre company that hold regular showcases. This is a great way to gain vital performing experience. It’s also a great way to network with other industry professionals. There are heaps of great things you can do to get some experience.

7. Be the Best Version of Yourself

When it comes to auditions and professional interactions, always put your best foot forward. Present the most likeable version of yourself and make sure that the auditioners see who the person is, not solely what he or she can do.

8. Find an Agent

It is really important to find a good agent. This might sound like a simple task, but it’s not as easy as it sounds. Since the acting industry is extremely competitive, it’s hard for newbie actors to get noticed. Talent agencies receive an overwhelming number of enquiries every day. When you get signed to an acting agency, it increases your chances of finding work.

9. Get Used to Rejection

Rejection is completely normal. It is a part of this business. A big part, actually. Many budding artists do not expect this turn of events once they decide they want to be actors in this very competitive market. Unfortunately, that’s the reality of show business – everybody gets rejected. It’s not personal and there’s no reason you should ever take it to heart.
