Tania Sachdev is an Indian chess player, who holds the titles of International Master and Woman Grandmaster. Tania was introduced to the game by her mother Anju at the age of 6. She won her first international title two years after. Tania is a recipient of India’s highest sporting honour, the Arjuna Award, which she received in 2009. She was ranked among the top 50 women's chess players as per the FIDE world chess rankings 2014. She won many events as a child. Her early successes include becoming the under-12 Indian champion in 1998, Asian under-14 girls champion in 2000, and Asian girls under-20 champion in 2002. She also won bronze at the World Under-12 Championship in 1998 A Viswanathan Anand fan, she became the eighth Indian to be awarded Woman Grandmaster when she claimed the title in 2005. She won the Indian Chess Championship for women in 2006 and 2007. She also won the Women’s Asian Chess Championship in 2007 and decided to take up chess professionally. She became an International Master in 2008. In 2012, she won the individual bronze medal at the Women’s Chess Olympiad in Istanbul. In 2017, she won bronze at the Asian Indoor Games in the rapid team chess competitions at Ashgabat, Turkmenistan. She also claimed the bronze medal at the Commonwealth Chess Championship in New Delhi.
