Dr. Amit Bhattacharyaji was the first person who encouraged him to pursue his career in sports, and according to his advice, he opted the shooting as sports. In 2006, he won the Gold Medal under 10m Air rifle event at the ISSF World Shooting Championships. In the following year in 2008 Beijing Olympic, he became the first ever-Indian Olympian who won the 10m Air rifle event gold medal by an Indian in the Olympic Games. India won the Olympic Gold medal again in 2008 by the Abhinav after 1980 Gold won by the Indian hockey team. Abhinav was the first sportsperson who recreated the moment for India after 1980. He kept continuing his grace to win the Gold medal though in 2002, 2006, and 2010 and even in 2014 commonwealth games. In the year 2014, he joined the Advisory Committee in Gosport Foundation (Bangalore) as the active member. On May 2016, the IOA (Indian Olympic Association), he appointed for the 2016 Rio Olympic Games as their "Goodwill Ambassador of the Indian subcontinent". Gabriele Bühlmann is his coach at present who is also an Olympic shooter for five times. A biopic on him has been announced and wil be released in 2020.
